Label Source Reduces Energy Cost by $60,000+ Annually with 7 Screen Press Retrofit to SST LED
A follow-up interview with the COO and CFO of Label Source after retrofitting 7 Screen Printing presses from 30 inches to 66 inches wide from UV arc to SST LED
Michael Wrigley shares the operational and financial benefits Label Source are realizing from the retrofits. These include an annual 380,000 kWh and $60,000 + reduction in energy. These were generated by reducing the curing power needed by almost 90% less, eliminating exhaust systems and reducing the AC load. They have been able to increase the thermostat temperature for the print room as the AC no longer has to compensate for the heat generated by the UV arc systems. He also shares the process of applying for and qualifying for a rebate from Georgia Power to subsidize 31% of the LED investment cost.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
- 1. $60,000 + per year energy bill savings
- 2. 205 tons per year of carbon emission reduction
- 3. Equal or more curing dosage while producing very little heat
- 4. Reducing temperature of curing bousings from 221 f with UV to 110 f with SST LED
- 5. Qualification for a 31% capital cost subsidy for the LED system
- 6. Retrofit time for each press was less than 2 hours
